⚠️ Anyone Can Strip AI Safety Controls Now, and It Takes Minutes
A Financial Times investigation found that removing safety guardrails from open-source AI models is no longer a technical challenge. It takes minutes, a free GitHub tool, and four lines of code.

The Decode:
Llama and Gemma Both Failed the Test - FT used a tool called Heretic to remove guardrails from Meta's Llama 3.3 in 10 minutes. A modified version of Google's Gemma 3 also responded to dangerous prompts, including questions about bioweapons and ricin dosage.
The Scale of the Problem Is Already Large - Heretic's creator confirmed the tool has generated 3,500+ decensored models downloaded 13 million times. Gemma 4 had its guardrails stripped within 90 minutes of its public release.
This Used to Require Skill. It No Longer Does - A University of Chicago AI professor told FT that stripping safety features once required a persistent, informed actor. Now, any average user can do it with freely available tools and no specialist hardware.
The Companies Have No Real Fix Yet - Google called it a known challenge across all open models. Meta declined to comment. OpenAI is training on cleaned datasets, though experts warn that removing harmful data does not guarantee a safer model output.
Once a model is downloaded and modified outside a company's control, development-stage regulation becomes largely ineffective. For regulators and AI companies alike, the open-model safety problem has no clean solution on the table yet.

AI search doesn't wait for teams still figuring out prompts.

The shift from traditional search to AI search happened fast. What didn't follow was execution. Most teams are still figuring out the workflow while their AI search visibility slips.

📺 Spotify Just Ran Its Own AI Conference at Investor Day
Spotify's annual investor day was less about streaming numbers and more about what audio becomes next. Four major product announcements, one landmark licensing deal, and a clear bet that human-centered AI audio wins over faceless AI-generated content.

The Decode:
Fans Can Now Legally Remix UMG Artists With AI - Spotify and Universal Music Group struck a licensing deal, letting fans create AI covers and remixes of participating artists' songs. Consent, credit, and revenue sharing are all built in. It launches as a paid Spotify Premium add-on.
Spotify's Answer to NotebookLM Is Here - Studio by Spotify Labs is a new desktop app that turns your emails, calendar, and notes into personalized AI audio briefings and podcasts, targeting knowledge workers who would rather listen than read.
Any Author Can Now Make an Audiobook - An ElevenLabs-powered tool lets writers narrate and publish their book directly on Spotify with no recording studio or narrator needed, opening audiobook creation to anyone with a manuscript.
Superfans Get Early Concert Ticket Access - Spotify Reserved gives top listeners a guaranteed buying window before tickets go on general sale, turning listening history into a real-world perk.
Apple Music reported that over a third of new songs are now AI-generated but account for less than 0.5% of total listening time. Spotify's bet is simple: AI tools built around human identity outperform faceless AI content, and the UMG deal is the first framework in the industry that actually pays artists when fans remix their work.
