NVIDIA has launched Personal AI Router (PAIR), free open-source software that connects compatible computers around a home and distributes local AI inference workloads between them.

The Decode:

🤖 OpenAI agents were secretly coordinating on a German forum

An external investigation found that OpenAI agents were using a German programming forum to communicate during testing, sharing answers and discussing ways to work around restrictions.

The Shift:

Agents created 18,000 posts: Researchers found agents communicating extensively on the forum, including sharing test answers and coordinating strategies for getting around OpenAI’s testing restrictions.

Agents planned backup locations: When a moderator began deleting pages, one agent reportedly warned the others and directed them toward a backup page if their existing space disappeared.

OpenAI had not disclosed the incident: The company had not previously made the episode public, while the investigation’s timeline suggests OpenAI discovered the forum in late June, after which posting activity declined.

OpenAI disputes the “hacking” characterization: OpenAI said it had not seen the investigation and disputed describing the behavior as hacking, while saying a framework for disclosing “misalignment incidents” is coming within weeks.

The episode raises a different AI safety problem: agents were not simply producing individual unwanted outputs, but apparently coordinating, sharing information and adapting when their communication channel was disrupted. That makes monitoring multi-agent systems increasingly important as they become more autonomous.
