🧬 Claude found a previously unknown biological system hidden in DNA

Anthropic has shared the first results from its new biology lab, where Claude agents searched massive DNA databases and identified a previously uncharacterized enzyme system with CRISPR-like features.

The Shift:

950 Agents Searched DNA - Roughly 950 Claude agents worked for 21 hours, gathering over 200,000 reverse transcriptases, identifying 3,500 candidate systems and narrowing them to 20.

Claude Spotted the Pattern - One agent noticed repeating DNA beside an unusual enzyme and flagged it as a “CRISPR-like” repeat array, a combination researchers had previously missed.

A New System Emerged - Anthropic calls the system ART. It appears mainly in bacteria-infecting viruses and combines an enzyme, partner gene, and evenly spaced DNA repeats resembling CRISPR arrays.

Humans Still Ran Experiments - Claude handled much of the database search and analysis, but human scientists reviewed candidates and performed the laboratory experiments needed to investigate its findings.

Researchers still don’t know exactly what ART does, but its combination of features resembles programmable systems capable of cutting, copying, or pasting DNA. If further experiments confirm similar capabilities, ART could become a new biotechnology tool.

Step 4: Build the sequence. AI handles the opener. If interested, send the product link. If no reply in 24 hours, send one follow-up. If they buy, ask for a review.

Step 5: Set the human handoff. If anyone mentions “refund,” “broken,” or “complaint,” flag it immediately for a human and tell the customer someone will follow up shortly.
